Discover the roots of the ideas that are shaping homeopathic practice today. Join WHN Courses for a 10-week tour of the rich and fascinating history of homeopathy. Your guide for this unique course will be our own Kim Elia, known the world over not only for his encyclopedic knowledge of homeopathy, but also for his unparalleled ability to make a story come alive!
Kim will take you on a memorable journey through the rich and fascinating history of homeopathy. We'll delve deeply into the past, with first-hand accounts of significant events, recreated debates, rich images and much more - a choreography that will bring to life the very roots of the ideas that shape homeopathy in the 21st Century. This won't be a survey of names and dates, but rather our vehicle for understanding today's homeopathic practice through the lens of the past.
Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it.
- George Santayana
This promises to be a history course unlike anything you've ever experienced. Passion, romance, splits and factions, insanity, secret notebooks, and of course... plenty of what we all love: cases, cases and more cases!!
Here are just a few of the topics we'll cover as we work our way into the hearts and minds of the great homeopaths of the past:
- Women in homeopathy - a hidden history
- Lachesis: the real story behind the proving
- The high/low potency debate
- To teach the Organon... or not!
- Strange, rare and peculiar: debating Aphorism 153
- Samuel & Melanie Hahnemann: a great romance
- The role of pathology in prescribing: Lippe vs. Hering
- American homeopathy’s first split: the AIH and IHA
- Hahnemann’s cases - lessons from the master
- Much, much more
History of Homeopathy - REALLY? Why should I study the history of homeopathy?
"Because the practitioners from our past were hugely successful in the treatment of both acute and chronic disease. Adolph Lippe, in 50 years of busy practice, never lost one typhoid, cholera or malaria patient. Constantine Hering treated hundreds of cases of pneumonia with 100% success. During the 1813 typhoid epidemic ravaging Europe, Hahnemann proved the superiority of the homeopathic method. Thomas Lindsley Bradford, the great American historian of homeopathy, in his seminal work 'The Logic of Figures', demonstrated the statistical efficacy and superiority of homeopathy over both allopathic and eclectic medicine. How was all this possible? How can you achieve this level of success in your own practice today? Learn what ONLY the History of Homeopathy can teach you - how to be a successful practitioner today.

I need to spend my limited time studying materia medica, how to take a case, and how to choose the correct remedy. Again, why history?
"This course will not be simply dates and events, we will focus on how the great homeopaths from our past actually practiced the art and science of homeopathy. In the process, we will be reviewing many cured cases, essential materia medica, and tips for case analysis and patient follow up. You will increase your understanding of the context of this great system of therapeutics, and your ability to practice it the way the masters of our past did with such great success.
A 10-week course? I'm very busy with work, school, family, patients ... I don't have 10 Wednesday nights available to study history. Can't you just condense it into a few sessions?
"10 weeks + the Free Bonus session is the minimum required to fully understand the great heritage of our homeopathic past. What is it worth to you to practice like Hahnemann, Lippe or Hering?" - Kim Elia

Praise for Kim Elia
I can think of no finer experience, than sitting down with Kim over a pint (good Czech lager for me, some kind of weird carrot / celery / kale / agave bean concoction for him) and hashing out the history that sculpted the foundations of our profession. Sans that opportunity, sitting in my basement with a good pint and Kim on the internet (where I can only imagine him slurping that green concoction) might just have to do. Think of this course offering as homeopathy's own History Detective show.
- how did Hering really obtain his Great Venomous Snake? and why in heaven's name?
- how many semesters of medical school did Kent attend? (hint - it was less than one...)
- how did Melanie arrive in Köthen, and how old was Hahnemann at the time? and could this happen to any of us, other than in our dreams?
- the list of questions goes on.
I'll be there.
The question is - will you?
— Will Taylor, MD

— Dr. Farokh Master
You are doing a great job, and we will continue to recommend your lectures to our students. I have attended quite a few seminars but I believe your materia medica studies and the advice you are giving to students regarding repertorization is the absolute best I have ever heard.
